Wild Side Media organized a massive Pride Month block party in Union Market in partnership with Capital Pride. The 8 hour event was split into two separate parts: an open air market behind Union Market with music, roller skaters and vendors from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a grandiose nighttime celebration in Dock5 with Capital Pride Award Honoree Tula, celebrated DJs Farrah Floscett and Alex Love, and a plethora of artists spanning genres and mediums.
With dozens of performers and 20+ sponsors, including the Kennedy Center and Absolut Vodka, the event raised money for the DC LGBTQ+ Community Center, and Wild Side Media encouraged all attendees to donate throughout the night. The diverse group of artists and vendors created a powerful shared experience of intersectional LGBTQ+ acceptance and support for the DC LGBTQ+ community.
For the first half of the event, vendors lined the back of Union Market for the free portion of the Walk on the Wild Side Pride Party. Anyone who wanted to walk through the market could enter for free and peruse varying shops and tarot card readers, all while enjoying music provided by Songbyrd Music House.
In the second half, attendees who bought tickets got to see the full show. Emcees Mx Mundy and Jane Saw kept the performances moving quickly, bouncing between drag queens, performance artists, burlesque dancers and more.
